Nashville, TN: October 2010

Hi! We are still at-it! Made it to the sweet and friendly Nashville capitol last week. In fact, that may have been the best part about the Nashville capitol, its genuinely nice, welcoming nature of all of those we came in contact with, something very different and refreshing from some of the capitols already visited.

The capitol is right near downtown so we walked there on a nice morning, just a friendly guard and a few other visitors there at the capitol that was erected in 1859, in the original condition, in Green style of limestone. There are three floors, generally bare of art, besides the main floor which boasts some busts and paintings of mayors, governors and such figures as Andrew Jackson and, of course, George Washington. The founder of the Ku Klux Klan, Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Tennessee native, also was exhibited with a bust. Ceiling frescoes of American and Tenneesee themes are nice, but no large dome accompanies them.

The grounds of the capitol were pleasant with some nice sculptures of Andrew Jackson and war memorials as well. Overall the Tennessee capitol was pleasant, nicely kept and very kind, but not overly decorative, creative or showy, which is okay.
